This year, Preacher Lawson has a massive set of shows lined up for 2025. This fall, he's got a special night scheduled at the Adler Theatre, joined by his mother Kimberly and brother Justin Lawson. Known as a funny man who made it to the final ten of NBC's America's Got Talent Season 12, he's struck millions of hearts for his hilarious jokes, relatable stories, and sharp wit. Every single year, his shows have been raved by fans who keep on begging for ore. In 2019, he returned for "America's Got Talent: The Champions" where he finished in 5th place. Now, he's got an army of fans across TikTok, YouTube, and his big lineup of tours.
Born in Portland, Oregon, he moved about 20 times right before reaching the age of 10. He spent most of his adolescence in Memphis, but continues to embrace Ordlando as where he grew as a comedian. Naming the city his hometown, it's a place where he spent both significant highs and lows in his life. Throughout his life, everything he's done is rooted in authenticity.
In his recent special, Preacher Lawson told a story where his mom's friends said he'd be growing up to do some impassioned sermons as his name suggests. Today, while they didn't really hit the mark, they aren't entirely wrong either... seing how his work in comedy is kinda like preaching.
"Whether it’s good or bad, you’re on stage sending a message," Lawson shared, as cited from RANGE.
Close to a decade since his debut TV performance for AGT, the man has continuously honed his craft. This time, he's realized that he had started focusing on authentcity, letting go of random gimmicks to make his stage life as close as possible to his real & authentic funny self. He has drawn the line between trying to be funny and actuyally being his funny self.
Known as a 'clean comedian', Lawson shares that he's actually "the dirtiest I’ve ever been in my life – but comparatively to most, I’m clean." While many people don't really like clean comedians because they've been perceived to make themselves look good, Lawson's actually simply being his true self. Known as one of the comedy scene's nicest guys out there, you can definitely feel his charm and heart even outside of the stage. He hangs out with everyone plus takes requests after his sets.
All in all, his natural ability to get everyone cracking up is amazing.
Looking back at the lowest points of his life, Preacher has shared that his mom would even make living in a car feel like a luxury, taking different perspectives in how we see life as it is. Growing up homeless for quite a while, his mom did her best to bring him opportunities in life. She's the reason he went back on stage for the first time after Preacher's nerves got the best of him at his first gig. In 2015 he won "Funniest Comedian In Florida" and in 2016, he won the "Seattle International Comedy Competition.
"She really made me delusional to the point where I think I could do anything I want, which is crazy," he shared, as cited from RANGE. He shared how his mom would both work and go to school at the same time while taking care of her four kids. Amazed by her work ethic, she became a great source of inspiration to make it big in life.
